my portfolio
This website here was created entirely by me on Squarespace with the aim of showcasing my portfolio in a creative way which could also be expanded on and worked on in the future to showcase future projects and work.
within this I drew up the logo for it and while I initially used a template contained within Squarespace for the layout I largely altered this format to fit all the content I need, I created this logo with the aim of developing under this in the future showing work on this website yet for now I’m just using this for my portfolio. I thought I should make the logo myself really so I could feel proud when looking at this website that I created as I can view it with the sense that I created this in its entirety and everything here is mine which I believe is a feeling one should have when looking at their own work.
music
Being a big fan of music and having quite a musical family I was almost drawn into playing an instrument, so I picked up the bass guitar at first simply to jam with family however it grew into a large part of what I do even enabling me to create the music for my films or ads I've had to make for media studies within school or even just for having fun making music with my family. On top of this I was also then able to taking this skill to join bands and play for school events really helping to build confidence.
These are a couple of examples of music I have created alongside my brother and father there’s quite a few more however showcasing too many feels over the top.
Reasons behind making them didn’t really exist my Dad just had the recording software so we thought it would be fun to mess around and create something unique and cool. Many of the pieces we made aren’t great but we still enjoy doing it and having a laugh making them.
The thought process when making the majority of these pieces was primarily just this is an experiment that we’re just messing around and having some fun with it essentially making whatever came to mind with a lot of trial and error to find the right sound to blend with the others. However this does shift when making the music for my school projects such as what example 1 is doing as I made this for my media GCSE project 3 so had a bit more planning, this planning was mostly just I knew I wanted the build up at the start which it has included. So while there wasn’t much planning some of the pieces my family and I have created had some.
I will put the video containing Example 1 below;
This was an advertisement on getting people into sport that I had to create for my Media GCSE and is what the music from example 1 was created for and while the video quality is reduced as it was compressed when uploaded you get a good sense of how I set up the music to fit.
TV/film
While similarly to with music I enjoyed TV and film however at first I had no desire to produce anything surrounding this industry and I was really pushed to this due to my media GCSEs in which we had to create multiple pieces whether it was posters, advertisements or short film clips. This desire to produce and create my own content was then bolstered by my A level media in which we similarly had to produce many TV or film pieces.
View some examples below;
This was the first product created by me and my friends within media GCSE and I believe since it was a first go at the editing and planning we were quite silly during the filming therefore messed up the final product and this could be significantly better if we treated it more seriously. if I was to do it again I would stick more to the plan we made and take more shots than we did to allow myself to produce something better, however since this was more of an simple piece to learn the editing software I believe the silliness when filming allowed us to be more creative in the editing as we had to do more to create something good.
This was ultimately created due to the need to learn how to edit videos within premier pro however also allowed me to grow my planning as for this we also went through the entire preproduction process mind mapping, storyboarding, creating shot lists we did all this to produce this. All this planning was ultimately to prepare us for the future projects such as the video under the music section which was a video created for my component 3 assessment.
The music contained within this short film along with the editing style and overarching narrative all were created by my friends and In correspondence with a set brief this being to “create a 1 minute opening scene to a horror movie”. Following this brief my friends and I focused strongly on a supernatural sense opting more for building tension in a consumer than just scaring them. I think this sense of tension can be seen through the music as well as the fast cuts in the shots. Although we were silly within the filming these thoughts were going through our heads during planning and filming.
This poster on the left was an independent product I created as a joke for the video above and while I made it jokingly I think it really highlights the feelings my friends and I were aiming to get across in the video through the cold darkness covering the entire poster.
this was the original image for the poster for my main A level project
My project is to create a 3 minute video of the last minutes of a season finale. Along with this I had to create a poster and a full blu-ray cover.
With this as my prompt I chose to plan a horror TV show with the poster looking like this but cooler since it is edited. I can’t show the final edited poster as I’m not allowed to publish any final pieces at risk of being caught for plagiarism the final pieces will be uploaded after I get my grades.
The main plot of my horror tv show is that a bullied teen 16-17 makes a deal with the devil to gain power to get revenge. This deal is was my poster was created to showcase.
These two posters were some little projects I decided myself I should do as it would be useful to improve at editing for my future work. I created these with heavy inspiration from John Wick and tried to capture that sort of professional look within these posters. I chose to work with weird lighting and opposing colour schemes to challenge my ability when making it to see if I could produce something good.
The quality of the images aren’t great as the only image I have saved of these are photos of the monitor with them being displayed however I think the main image is still decent enough.
Games
I’ve enjoyed games my entire life having consumed a lot of games and after a while simply playing games wasn’t enough so I moved to designing games a lot of the time simply just coming up with fun ideas with friends however I have worked to produce many simple short games individually I’ve primarily developed on python as its what was taught in school however through the super curricular activities taught by code ninjas a business focused on teaching a younger generation to code covering Java, Lua and C++, through this I have experimented with development in those languages as well.
View some examples below;
this was my experiment in Lua the code however was almost purely found from a youtube video with me making the damage script and the design for he fireball and setting up the map.
I first decided to work on this as I enjoy reading online the murim/cultivation manhwa and thought potentially I could work to create one of my own that I could enjoy playing however I learnt early on I might be shooting above my paygrade so I took a step back and then sort of forgot about this so haven’t worked on it since sadly.
above is a short clip of me failing in a simple obby I created when messing around with the roblox studio.
I created this as part of my learning at code ninjas so it was primarily an independent project yet I could’ve got help.
this was made as a first project on lua so is more simplistic and easy more of a test of what I can achieve using like a taste of lua.
This is a short video demonstrating my python game created for my A level project it is a simple boss battle containing a player with the ability to dash which is possible so long as the players stamina is high enough and they can attack the boss by making contact with it.
This game while simple and created entirely for school was also created wholly by me all the sprites the ui the code for it and the research that went into it was fully designed and produced by me solo
My reasoning behind creating this was the project however I created a boss fight due to my enjoyment when playing other boss fights I simply though it would be cool to create my own.
With this I would like to apologise when screen recording the gameplay it slowed everything down making it hard to showcase everything nicely but hopefully it was showed pretty well
A larger number of examples from code ninjas will come soon
